Q.  Does Medicare reimburse for scooter (POV) purchases?

A.  Yes.  we have many customers who have been reimbursed for scooter purchases. 

 

 

 

Q.  How much does Medicare pay toward P.O.V.'s (scooters)?

A.  This depends on which region you reside in, but ranges from $1750.00 to $2100.00.  This amount is broken down where Medicare pays 80% of the allowable and your supplement pays the 20% totaling the allowable set by Medicare.

 

 

 

 

 

Q.  What are the Medicare Criteria for Scooters (POVs)?

A.  Medicare requires a special form be filled out by your physician describing your conditions and what limitations you have which require you use a POV.

 

 

 

 

 

Q.  I go to my daughter's and sister's homes; and they have steps in front of their homes- making it difficult for me to get in and out.  What can I do?

A.  Your best bet is a portable ramp, that can be folded and transported.  Once you reach your destination, unfold and put down the ramp.  There is no permanent installation and the design makes it ideal to keep you going with ease without violating code restrictions.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Q.  Are there different types of scooters?

A.  Yes.  There are several different styles, designs and brands.  You should try to acquire a scooter based on your lifestyle and physical needs.

 

 

 

Q.  Can you take a scooter or wheelchair on an airplane or cruise ship?

A.  Yes.  You can drive your equipment up to the gate and the air carrier will place the equipment in hold, until you depart- where it will be waiting for you.  It is recommended to call the airlines in advance to avoid any delays.

 

 

Q.  Where can I travel with a scooter?

A.  With the passing of the A.D.A., you are allowed to use a scooter in any building or area that has public access.

 

Q.  Can a scooter be put into a car or van?

A.  Yes, most scooters can be disassembled into smaller manageable parts.  Lifts are available to assist individuals who cannot disassemble or lift the parts.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Q.  Will my vehicle accept a lift?

A.  The answer used to be yes...but now auto makers are constructing vehicles with more passenger room and less cargo room.  This is limiting the vehicles which can accommodate lifts.  Contact us to see if your specific vehicle can handle a lift.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Q.  Are Gel or Acid Batteries better?

A.  Gel batteries are the safest and best choice in powered mobility.  They not only last longer, but are much easier to maintain.

 

 

 

Q.  I have seen battery prices for gel batteries vary quite a lot from supplier to supplier.  Is there a difference in battery quality?

A.  There is a difference in battery quality, and you should ask about the warranty.  Most suppliers are not very competitive with battery pricing.  A U1 battery for example, Manufacturers sell for $99 to $125.00 each; where as a local supplier may charge $79.00 to $85.00 each.

 

 

 

 

Q.  Where can I get a used scooter?  I cannot afford the price of a new one.

A.  Ask your local supplier or see our list of recondition equipment.

 

 

 

Q.  How do you use  scooter to shop?

A.  Shopping baskets are available in a variety of sizes and are removable for different applications.
