Lift chairs come in two varieties; two position and three position chairs.  The only difference is that the three position chair reclines to almost 180 degrees where as the two position only reclines to approximately 45 degrees.

Lift chairs now come with battery back up systems which allow the chair to raise or lower even if the power goes out.
