The great debate, is should and when a child should be issued a powered wheelchair. There are many debates; but I seem to always fall into the philosophy that children should be given the ability to use powered wheelchairs as early as possible to assist with their development. There are studies, that show that the intervention of power chairs, to children who have the cognitive, and driving capabilities have been shown to mainstream faster. If all the children on the playground are running around, and your child is trying to keep up, they are always left back. If they have a power chair, they can keep up with their peers, feel as equals, and develop on the same scale.
When choosing equipment for children, as well as adults, one should keep in mind that children change; and the electronics as well as the chair needs to not only adapt in size changes, but also electronic changes if their abilities change. Using a chair that their electronics can be modified or changed with their changing needs.
