Obviously the ultra-light wheelchairs are the easiest to propel and
transport. More importantly is that in-order to get adjustability; the
only choices are light weight and ultra-light weight chairs. When choosing
a wheelchair for an active user, it is important to get a chair that is made or
can be adjusted to you. Basic or standard wheelchairs can cause the user
more physical problems that it is helping. The wrong placement of the
wheels for an active use can cause increased wear to shoulders and arms; as well
as quicker fatigue.
I believe standard wheelchairs are good for people using the wheelchair on a
limited basis. For any active individuals spending the day in a
wheelchair, should have a light weight or ultra light weight wheelchair.
For younger individuals, still competing in sports and working in the community
a ultra-light weight wheelchair would be the only practical wheelchair.
